Ron Waller, who made a name for himself as a running back at Laurel High and later coached the Philadelphia Bell of the World Football League, will be honored as this year's living legend at the 62nd annual Delaware Sportswriters and Broadcasters banquet dinner, March 31 at Dover Downs Hotel and Casino.

Waller was inducted into the Delaware Sports Hall of Fame in 1977.

Joe Conklin will emcee the event. Guests scheduled to appear include Pro Bowl running back and Concord High grad Montell Owens, University of Delaware football coach K.C. Keeler, former Baltimore Colts quarterback Tom Matte and University of Maryland field hockey coach Missy Meharg.

The banquet will honor the fall and winter high school All-State teams and feature the presentation of the DSBA's four major annual awards: the John J. Brady Award to the Delaware athlete of the year, the Herm Reitzes Award for Public Service, the team of the year and the Tubby Raymond Award For Excellence in Coaching.

St. Andrew's baseball coach Bob Colburn has been named the winner of this year's Reitzes Award. Keeler has earned the Raymond Award.

Cocktail hour begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by the banquet at 6:30. Tickets are $50 and are available through B&B Tickettown at 656-9797 and, or Dover Downs at 857-3773.
